Pulmonary Drug Delivery
Pulmonary drug delivery is the administration of medications directly into the lungs through inhalation. This route is widely used to treat respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, and pulmonary infections. It is also being explored for systemic delivery of drugs, including insulin, vaccines, and certain biologic therapies.
Delivering drugs directly to the lungs provides rapid therapeutic action, high local drug concentrations, and reduced systemic side effects compared with many oral or injectable medications.
